Capital Gains

You may offset your capital losses against your capital gains.

However, if you do not have capital gains, the annual limit for capital losses is $3,000 or $1,500 if you are a married couple and file taxes separately.

You may carry forward your unused losses to future tax filing years.

Please see IRS Publication 908 and IRS tax form 982 at irs.gov.
